I was suddenly homeless. When my spouse — who
has a mental disorder — ordered me to get out of the
house, I knew it wasn’t safe to stay. I left quickly . . . with
nothing . . . with nowhere to go.
With what little money I had, I took a bus to The
Salvation Army. They helped me find a temporary place
to stay until I could get things worked out, and gave me a
toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and soap — as well as a
jacket. They also helped me with food.
In a few days, I was able to go back home, but if it
hadn’t been for The Salvation Army, I would have spent
those days on the street.
